Recovery & Post-Operative Care

Activity & Recovery Guidelines

Activity

  • Rest on the day of surgery
  • Light activity only for the first 48-72 hours
  • Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise until reviewed
  • Walking short distances is encouraged unless instructed otherwise

Work & Driving

  • Driving should be avoided for at least 24 hours after anaesthetic
  • Return to work depends on the procedure
  • Desk-based roles may resume earlier than manual labour

Wound Care

  • Keep the surgical area clean and dry
  • Dressings can be removed as instructed
  • Avoid submerging wounds in baths, spas or pools until cleared
  • Watch for signs of infection, including redness, discharge or fever

When To Contact The Practice

Seek medical advice if you experience:

  • Fever or chills
  • Increasing pain not relieved by medication
  • Difficulty passing urine or inability to void
  • Large blood clots
  • Persistent bright-red bleeding
  • Catheter blockage
  • Significant swelling or wound discharge

For urgent issues outside business hours, present to your nearest emergency department.
